"Although improvements have been made, we are still faced with the fact that serious injury rates are significantly higher in Shipping than the UK industry average. My drive is to improve safety standards and promote best practice. I am proud to have been part of a team in Maersk Tankers where the number of serious injuries has decreased by 50% over the last 5 years, however as an industry in general we are still lagging and vast cultural changes are still required. Going forwards the emphasis should be on what we can all do throughout the industry to contribute to an effective safety culture and achieve our goal of zero accidents and incidents. "
